Why Hacking Your Child's Hotmail Password Can be Smart

By: Brian Freeman

Before I get started telling you about why hacking into your child’s e-mail account COULD be a good idea, there’s something you should keep in mind: spying is by no means a healthy replacement for communication. If you suspect your child is hiding something from you, then you should focus your efforts in restoring his/hers confidence in you, rather than providing the child with potentially more reasons not to trust you.

In all circumstances, there are occasions when investigating your child’s mailbox might actually be a great tool to preserve his or her well-being. For example, they might be talking to a much older stranger online or perhaps thinking of suicide or running away. Preferably though, you should keep these strategies as a last resort when they are positively hiding something important and just asking won’t do the trick. We all know children go through complicated developmental stages as they grow up, and generally younger people always think they know what’s best for them (remember what that felt like?). So, there are occasions when hacking into your child’s mailbox can provide you with a glimpse of what’s really going on in their life… however - as rule of thumb, during your investigations you should keep asking yourself whether you’ve crossed the line between caring and snooping. After all, your children are entitled to their privacy just like adults are, and they desperately need the privacy at a young age where they are still learning and experimenting.

There is actually a wide range of trouble your child could be getting into that you could figure out from hacking their hotmail account. For example, the child could be engaging inappropriate relationships with older people, posting inappropriate pictures, or otherwise getting involved in potentially dangerous forums (and trust me, there’s no shortage of those out there). Other than that, they could be facing some kind of personal problem (from sexual identity issues to school trouble) which they might not feel comfortable asking you about, rather choosing to get advice online.

Social profiles such as MySpace are a haven of information about your child, which is usually linked to their hotmail account. For teens, they are the source of their social interactions and can speak exactly what's going on in their life. Blogs, pictures, and messages from their friends all tell the story of what's going on in their life, and the troubles they might be facing.

While you should consider hacking into your child’s emails as a way to keep watch and protect them, you should use this strategy as a last resort - when you either can’t get through to your children simply by talking, or you’re worried they might be holding back on you. Regardless, it’s always best to focus on building a better relationship with the kids, than merely using this trick as a way to keep them under control… otherwise it won’t take long until your efforts eventually backfire.
